Community Solar

South Carolina’s independent, consumer-owned electric cooperatives are creating the largest network of community solar installations in the state, significantly expanding solar energy access to the more than 1.3 million people served by the state’s co-ops.

The state’s electric co-ops launched the Community Solar initiative in 2016, with each participating co-op offering up to 250 kilowatts (kW) of community solar installations for a total of up to five megawatts (MW) of capacity statewide. Individual co-ops determine whether Community Solar is right for their members and, if so, when and how to build, market and offer it.
